First, shake the egg whites to break them up and make them slightly frothy. Then mix equal parts egg whites and glycerin. Add a crumb of thymol to prevent mold. Store in a dropper bottle, in the refrigerator. Used on slides prior to placing ribbons of paraffin sections on the slides. It is an excellent adhesive for the sections. To use, place a small drop of adhesive on the slide, and spread the drop with a Kimwipe® to make an even, thin layer of adhesive. The layer should be thin enough that you only see it as a sheen on the slide. Too much adhesive causes excessive background staining. Too little results in the sections not adhering. |
